German SummaryIn der Zeit der großen Weltwirtschaftskrise soll die Grube "Morgenrot" wegen Unrentabilität geschlossen werden. Der junge Bergmann Ernst, gerade mit bestandenem Steigerexamen nach Hause gekommen, setzt sich an die Spitze des Widerstands der Kumpel. Im Einsatz der aus Sicherheitsgründen verbotenen Schrämmaschine sieht er die einzige Möglichkeit der Kostensenkung. Als ein Unglück passiert, schiebt man die Schuld auf Ernst, doch die Arbeiter stellen sich hinter ihn. Nun greift die Grubenleitung zu einem raffinierten Mittel. Sie schenkt den Arbeitern die Grube - in dem Wissen, daß sie im harten Konkurrenzkampf nicht mithalten kann. Ernst sieht das voraus, doch die Kumpel verstehen ihn nicht. Nach siebzig Tagen müssen sie ihre Grube wegen Geldmangels schließen. - 1945 wird Ernst, von den Nazis ins KZ geworfen, zum Leiter des Bergwerks berufen.

English SummaryDuring the Great Depression, the "Morgenrot" mine is to be closed due to unprofitability. The young miner Ernst, who has just returned home after passing the climbing examination, takes the lead in the resistance of his buddies. He sees the use of the cutting machine, which is prohibited for safety reasons, as the only way to reduce costs. When an accident happens, the blame is put on Ernst, but the workers stand behind him. Now the mine management reaches for a refined means. It gives the mine to the workers in the knowledge that it cannot keep up in the tough competition. Seriously, he's got it all figured out, but the buddies don't understand him. After seventy days they have to close their pit due to lack of money. - In 1945 Ernst, thrown into a concentration camp by the Nazis, is appointed head of the mine.

Original SummaryIn piena crisi economica la cava "Morgenrot" non è abbastanza redditizia. Il giovane Ernst, neolaureato in ingegneria mineraria, guida la rivolta dei minatori, contrari alla chiusura. Per diminuire i costi, decide di tornare a impiegare la sottoescavatrice, vietata per problemi di sicurezza. Di fronte a una sciagura, tutta la colpa viene scaricata su Ernst, ma i minatori si schierano con lui, difendendolo. La direzione decide, dunque, di regalare la cava agli operai, sapendo perfettamente che non riusciranno mai a tener testa alla concorrenza. Ernst riconosce subito il tranello. I suoi colleghi non vogliono dargli ascolto, ma dopo 70 giorni, sono costretti a chiudere la miniera. Nel 1945 Ernst, deportato dai nazisti in un campo di concentramento, dovrà lavorare come responsabile di una miniera. (Italienisch)
