German SummaryIn einem alten, verwitterten Schloß lebt die dreizehnjährige Hochgräfin Gritta mit ihrem verarmten Vater, dem Hochgrafen Julius Ortel von Rattenzuhausbeiuns. Der Hirte Peter ist Grittas Partner bei übermütigen Spielen und Abenteuern in der freien Natur, während der Vater, ein Erfinder, an einer Thronrettungsmaschine für den König arbeitet. Er hofft, damit wieder zu Geld und Ehre zu gelangen. Als er die vornehme Gräfin Nesselkrautia heiratet, ist es mit Grittas wildem Leben vorbei, sie wird auf Wunsch der Stiefmutter in ein Kloster gesteckt. Empört über den dortigen Zwang und die betrügerischen Machenschaften der Äbtissin, die mit dem Statthalter des Königs unter einer Decke steckt, flieht sie mit ihren Freundinnen in den Wald. Dort begegnen sie dem Prinzen und Freunden sich mit ihm an. Aber der Statthalter ist ihnen auf der Spur . Mit Hilfe des Prinzen gelangen sie ins Schloß, und die Thronrettungsmaschine des Vaters - nichts anderes als ein Schleudersitz - befördert den finsteren Statthalter außer Landes.

English SummaryIn an old, weathered castle lives the thirteen-year-old High Countess Gritta with her impoverished father, the High Count Julius Ortel of Rattenzuhausbeiuns. The shepherd Peter is Grittas partner in exuberant games and adventures in nature, while the father, an inventor, is working on a throne rescue machine for the king. He hopes to get back to money and honor with it. When he marries the noble Countess Nesselkrautia, Grittas wild life is over, she is put into a monastery at the request of her stepmother. Outraged by the coercion there and the fraudulent machinations of the abbess, who is under a blanket with the governor of the king, she flees with her friends into the forest. There they meet the prince and friends with him. But the governor's on to them. With the prince's help, they enter the castle, and the father's throne rescue machine - nothing more than an ejector seat - transports the sinister governor out of the country.
