German SummaryDer demokratische Münchener Publizist und Chefredakteur des "Südkurier", Alexander Steinhorst, hat den Gipfel gesellschaftlicher Reputation und privaten Wohlstands erreicht. Seinem Sohn kann er ein Theater mieten, die Frauen liegen ihm zu Füßen. Da erlaubt er sich, eine Zeitung mit Enthüllungen über die dubiosen Quellen des CSU-Wahlfonds herauszubringen. Der CSU-Justitiar Dr. Fabricius setzt einen Fotografen auf Steinhorsts Privatleben an, um ihn zu Fall zu bringen. Es kommt zur Anklage wegen "Unzucht mit Abhängigen", doch mangels Beweises zum Freispruch. Steinhorst jedoch ist gesellschaftlich ruiniert. Freunde und Kollegen wenden sich aus Angst um ihre eigene Karriere von ihm ab, sein Vermögen wird beschlagnahmt. Steinhorst geht in den Freitod.

English SummaryThe democratic Munich journalist and editor-in-chief of "Südkurier", Alexander Steinhorst, has reached the peak of social reputation and private prosperity. He can rent a theatre for his son, the women are at his feet. He then takes the liberty of publishing a newspaper with revelations about the dubious sources of the CSU election fund. CSU legal counsel Dr. Fabricius puts a photographer on Steinhorst's private life to bring him down. He is charged with "fornication with addicts," but acquitted for lack of evidence. Steinhorst, however, is socially ruined. Friends and colleagues turn away from him for fear of their own career, his assets are confiscated. Steinhorst goes to suicide.
