German SummaryIn einem Dorf am Meer wohnten zwei Brüder, der Fischer Peter und der Salzhändler Klas. Peter hatte eine große Familie und wußte oft nicht, wo er das Fett zum Braten der Fische hernehmen sollte. So borgte er sich von seinem Bruder eine Speckseite, und Klas wünschte ihn deshalb zum Teufel. Peter machte sich tatsächlich auf den Weg zur Hölle. Er traf den Teufel und erfuhr, dass auch in der Hölle der Speck gerade ausgegangen war. Er schenkte dem Teufel seine mitgebrachte Speckseite und erhielt dafür eine Wunschmühle. Nach Peters Rückkehr wurde im Dorf ein großes Fest gefeiert, denn die Mühle konnte alles herbeizaubern, was Peter und seine Freunde ihr auftrugen. Auch Klas durfte sich etwas wünschen. Er verlangte, dass die Mühle Salz mahlen solle. Als er das viele Salz sah, riss er die Mühle an sich und floh mit ihr auf das Meer hinaus. Da Klas aber den Zauberspruch nicht kannte, mit dem die Wundermühle angehalten werden konnte, war sein Boot bald mit Salz überladen und sank. Er mußte die Mühle über Bord werfen, um sein Leben zu retten. So steht die Wunschmühle nun auf dem Meeresgrund und mahlt tagaus und tagein Salz.

English SummaryIn a village by the sea lived two brothers, the fisherman Peter and the salt merchant Klas. Peter had a large family and often did not know where to get the fat to fry the fish. So he borrowed a side of bacon from his brother, and Klas wished him to hell. Peter actually made his way to hell. He met the devil and learned that even in hell the bacon had just gone out. He gave the devil his bacon side and received a wish mill for it. After Peter's return, a big party was celebrated in the village, because the mill could conjure up everything that Peter and his friends had entrusted to it. Klas was also allowed to make a wish. He demanded that the mill grind salt. When he saw all the salt, he took the mill and fled with it to the sea. But since Klas did not know the spell to stop the miracle mill, his boat was soon overloaded with salt and sank. He had to throw the mill overboard to save his life. The Wunschmühle now stands on the seabed and grinds salt day in and day out.
