German SummaryAlljährlich erstrahlt im Erzgebirge in den Weihnachtsstuben die Pyramide als Symbol des Lebens. Ein Seyffener Männelmacher hat seinen Enkeln eine solche Pyramide gebaut und macht sie ihnen zu Weihnachten zum Geschenk. Aus seinen Erzählungen vom Erzgebirge wissen die Kinder, was die Figuren auf den Pyramidentellern darstellen, und sie sehen in Gedanken deren Geschichte an sich vorbeiziehen. Der Ururgroßvater war Bergmann, zu dessen kargem Lohn Frau und Kinder durch Spitzenklöppeln dazuverdienen mußten, daß es für das tägliche Brot reichte. Die nächste Generation versuchte, von den Früchten des Gebirgswaldes und des Feldes zu leben. Der Großvater selbst mußte schon als Kind hinzuverdienen. Er und seine Schwester boten als Striezelkinder Waren auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt feil, und oft war die Enttäuschung über ihre Erfolglosigkeit bitterer als die winterliche Kälte. Heute, da es den meisten Menschen besser geht, nehmen die Kinder fröhlich an der großen Bergparade teil.

English SummaryEvery year in the Erzgebirge the pyramid shines in the Christmas parlours as a symbol of life. A Seyffener man-maker has built such a pyramid for his grandchildren and gives it to them as a Christmas present. From his tales of the Erzgebirge, the children know what the figures on the pyramid plates represent, and they see in their minds their story passing by. The great-great-grandfather was a miner, whose meagre wages required his wife and children to earn by lace-making, so that they had enough for their daily bread. The next generation tried to live from the fruits of the mountain forest and the field. The grandfather himself had to earn extra money as a child. As Striezel children, he and his sister offered goods for sale at the Christmas market, and disappointment at their failure was often more bitter than the winter cold. Today, when most people are feeling better, the children happily take part in the big mountain parade.
