English SummaryIn 1902 the Russian explorer Vladimir Arseniev undertakes an expedition to the impassable taiga. There he wins the old Kyrgyz nomad Dersu Uzala as a boy scout and friend. Years later, when he threatens to become blind, Arseniev invites him to his upper middle-class house. But the nomad thinks he has to suffocate there. The heroine of this film is nature visually captured in beguiling beauty: Their rhythm determines the film from the calm to the furious blizzard.
