Mitte April 1945 ist die Sowjetarmee bereits bis an die Oder-Neiße-Linie vorgedrungen, bei Küstrin wird ein Brückenkopf am Westufer der Oder gebildet. In einem Nachtangriff stürmen Sowjetische Soldaten am 16. April 1945 die Befestigungen auf den Seelower Höhen. Dieser Durchbruch durch die Verteidigungslinie der deutschen Truppen öffnet den Weg nach Berlin. Die 1. Belorussische Front unter Marshall Shukow und die 3. Belorussische Front unter Marshall Rokossowski greifen Berlin vom Osten und Norden an und vereinigen sich mit der vom Süden vorstoßenden 1. Ukrainischen Front unter Marshall Konew.
Teil 5 - Der letzte Sturm:
In Berlin beginnt der erbarmungslose Kampf um jede Straße und jedes Haus. Der Zoo, der Tiergarten, die Straßen auf der Fischerinsel und am Landwehrkanal, das Brandenburger Tor und die Reichskanzlei werden Kriegsschauplatz. Als russische Truppen versuchen über die U-Bahn-Tunnel die Reichskanzlei zu erreichen, lässt Hitler die Spreeschleusen öffnen um die Schächte zu fluten. Tausende Schutzsuchende ertrinken. Die Lage spitzt sich dramatisch zu: während Granaten im Hof der Reichskanzlei einschlagen, begeht Hitler Selbstmord. Nach dem letzten Sturm auf den Reichstag hissen sowjetische Soldaten die Fahne des Sieges.

In mid-April 1945, the Soviet army had already reached the Oder-Neisse line, and a bridgehead was formed near Küstrin on the western bank of the Oder. In a night attack Soviet soldiers stormed the fortifications on the Seelow heights on 16 April 1945. This breakthrough through the defensive line of the German troops opens the way to Berlin. The 1st Belarusian Front under Marshall Shukov and the 3rd Belarusian Front under Marshall Rokossowski attack Berlin from the east and north and unite with the 1st Ukrainian Front advancing from the south under Marshall Konew.
Part 5 - The last storm:
In Berlin the merciless fight for every street and every house begins. The zoo, the zoo, the streets on the Fischerinsel and the Landwehrkanal, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reich Chancellery become theatres of war. When Russian troops try to reach the Reich Chancellery via the underground tunnel, Hitler opens the Spree locks to flood the shafts. Thousands of refugees drown. The situation becomes dramatic: Hitler commits suicide while shells hit the Reich Chancellery courtyard. After the last storm on the Reichstag Soviet soldiers hoist the flag of victory.
